Finding a gift for a loved one is always a very tricky time of year that can get quite stressful if you cannot come up with an idea that you are sure will be appreciated. The old line about “What do you get the man who has everything? A bigger store cupboard” is never truer than at these times of year. But with a little creativity it can be quite simple to resolve this problem; the trick is to look further afield than your local retail park.
Today we have so much more choice open to us with everything in our lives and when it comes to buying gifts it is no different at all. If you are anything like me the thought of what to buy a loved one will consume you with dread for the weeks preceding the event only for you to have a wonderful idea for a gift when driving but have forgotten it by the time you arrive at your destination.
In the weeks and possibly months before the gift giving deadline I try to pick up on any subtle clues that may give me an idea of what to buy my partner. We all do it, we all try to give little subliminal hints out in the middle of a conversation, it is just a case of hoping that your partner picks up on these. My partner never does!
If you are really stuck for what to buy your partner you may find that making a list of your partners interests and running through them one by one and trying to think of anything that you could buy that would be associated with these interests, this can usually throw up some quite quirky ideas, which is a good starting point. Take these pointers that you have arrived at and throw them into the inter web and see what comes back, again this will turn up some interesting ideas. At this point you may be satisfied that you have found the right gift for your partner so you have succeeded. One thing to bear in mind is that if you are ordering off of the inter web be sure to leave ample time for the gift to be delivered in time for the special day. A great gift given two days late will not be received as such a great gift as if given on time.
If you are the creative type and are good at arts and crafts why not look to make your partner one of many unique handmade gifts? These do not have to be fantastically expensive to be appreciated, usually more than a bought gift that may have cost substantially more. A very simple handmade piece of jewelery will always be well received and these are generally pretty simple things to make. With a little help, again, from the inter web or a jewelery resource manual you should be able to create a unique handmade gift with only a couple of hours practice, and the more you practice the better the pieces will get. You never know, you may enjoy it enough to take it up as a hobby.
So there you have it, when it comes to a gift giving time of year don’t approach it will fear and trepidation, approach with in a calm manner and with an open mind and you should come out the other side with glowing praise and thanks. |
